How did Spider Tie come about?
Spider Tie was conceived out of a need for builders to be able to form a concrete wall easily and quickly. Greg McDonagh who has over 30 years experience building homes found it very frustrating to have to wait for a foundation contractor to fit him in to their busy schedules. Many times an excavated hole would sit for two or three weeks before the foundation walls could be formed and poured. This got him thinking and experimenting with different ideas. With so many years experience as a carpenter framing homes he decided to take the same approach to forming a concrete wall. After a lot of trial and error he ended up with the Spider Tie concrete wall forming system. The Spider Ties simply function like a 2×4 studs, providing a frame to screw your plywood to.
A company developed and run by experienced builders.
Greg McDonagh and Jeff Carmignani have a combined experience of nearly 50 years in the construction industry. Greg has been a General Contractor for 24 of the 30 years that he has been in the field. Specializing in residential home building and remodeling work. Jeff spent over 20 years as a mason. Working on projects ranging from homes to large public schools. Both men know what its like to work with their hands and are not afraid of hard work. Like you they know the value of finding an easier way to getting the job done.
The experience of these two have as tradesmen cover almost all areas of residential and light commercial concrete construction. Such areas include: Footings, Concrete or Block Foundation walls, Concrete or Block Retaining walls, Concrete slabs and flat work, Suspended concrete floors, Brick and Rock exterior wall finishes, Masonry Fire Places. Along with a long list of interior finishes such as stone and tile work.
It’s because of this experience that they came to realize the value of this idea of theirs.
Spider Tie now offers trades men an easier way to construct a concrete wall. You no longer are at the mercy of your subcontractors busy schedule. Since no expensive forms are required you can easily form these walls yourself. Less labor is required as well because the heaviest part of this system is a single sheet of plywood. The Spider Tie system is simple to explain. It creates a temporary frame work by which you simply fasten your plywood to using a recommended coarse thread screw. Very similar to fastening drywall to wooden studs. This framework also holds your rebar perfectly in place every time with out having to use tie wire.
Curved walls and Swimming pools
There are other wonderful advantages to using Spider Tie as well. With Spider Tie you now can form curved walls in a fraction of the time. Serpentine shaped walls, tight radius walls, really the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. Spider Tie “Wet” was designed for swimming pool construction. Any shape and size pool can now be built for a fraction of the cost of Gunite and Shotcrete.
Costs less to build with Spider Tie
The most impressive feature of Spider Tie for what it provides costs less than all the other forming system out there. For example lets say that you are building with an I.C.F. system and you want to form a section of wall that does not need to be insulated.. By using the Spider Tie system in those areas you will find that the Spider Tie system is about 1/5th the cost. The Spider Tie system allows you to fasten insulation board to any surfaces that you want to have insulated. Reducing the cost of an insulated concrete wall.
Unlike the heavy steel forms the Spider Tie system requires no large investment. No heavy trucks and trailers. No need for storage facilities. The amount of Spider Ties for an average sized house can easily fit in the back of a pickup. Some contractors are temporarily using the plywood dedicated for their framing package for the forming process ( R We recommend that you spray plywood with a water based form release or a product like Thompson water seal for better results).
